NEW RIDER COURSE

WHAT TO EXPECT

When you take a New Rider Course at the Riding Academy you’ll:

  • Learn to ride on a genuine Harley-Davidson® motorcycle.
  • Get in-class and on-range instruction from Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) and H-D® Certified Coaches.
  • Learn to safely accelerate, shift, brake, and turn, along with maneuvers like controlling skids and surmounting obstacles.
  • Earn an MSF Basic RiderCourseSM Completion Card, which may (varies by state) exempt you from the riding portion of your license exam and score you a discount on motorcycle insurance.

Harley Davidson Bowling Green Riding Academy COVID-19 Safety Precautions

  • Students can bring their own markers, pens mask and gloves if they so choose
  • Students are required to bring their own DOT Approved Helmet (no loaner helmets)
  • Students are provided their own ink pens, markers, roadbooks, and rider handbooks
  • Classroom tables and chairs will be sanitized prior to and after each class session
  • Hand sanitizer will be available in the classroom and on the range
  • 6 ft. distancing will be practiced in the classroom and on the range
  • Motorcycles will be sanitized prior to and after each range session (dealership industrial sanitation wipes
  • Bottled water will be provided by the dealership although students are encouraged to bring a small cooler to enhance cold water while on the riding range

NEW RIDER COURSE FAQS

You’ll need a valid automobile driver’s license or learner’s permit, and have the ability to ride a bicycle.

 

This online course is a key component of the full hands-on New Rider Course. Graphics and videos illustrate the lesions to help you understand the basic principles of motorcycling & determine whether motorcycling is right for you. The eCourse is 3.5 hours & provides only a fraction of the training needed to complete the required curriculum. Upon completing the eCourse, you will print the certificate and bring it with you the first day of class. Onsite class includes the riding portion, and will be conducted on Friday, Saturday, & Sunday. Once this portion of the class is completed, you will receive your license waiver. You may take the eCourse as many times as necessary to complete & pass the learning modules.

 

You’ll need to bring the following:

  • A heavy, long-sleeve shirt or jacket
  • Jeans, chaps, or leather pants
  • Over-the-ankle, sturdy footwear
  • Full-fingered gloves
  • A helmet that meets DOT requirements
  • Eyewear

  • Computer with internet access
  • Email address
  • Course code that will be sent to you 30 days prior to class

SKILLED RIDER COURSE – PRACTICE SESSION

WHAT TO EXPECT

Take your riding to an all-new level with the Harley-Davidson® Riding Academy Skilled Rider Course. Created for experienced riders, it offers advanced tips and techniques that help you own the road.

The course runs 1 day and is built on the curriculum of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) Basic RiderCourse 2 Suite. It is taught by devoted MSF and H-D® Certified Instructors.

The course focuses on improving these skills:

  • Control at low speeds
  • Risk management
  • Limited-space maneuvers
  • Cornering judgment
  • Swerving and stopping quickly on straights and in curves
  • Multiple curve maneuvers and surmounting objects

When you’re done, you’ll earn a MSF Basic RiderCourse 2 completion card that may qualify you for a discount on motorcycle insurance.

The state of Kentucky requires you to register for motorcycle training for licensing on their website. LICENSE WAIVER

SKILLED RIDER FAQS

  • E-mail address and access
  • A Street-ready motorcycle
  • Motorcycle endorsement, permit or license
  • Proof of valid motorcycle insurance and registration

 

  • You will receive email from Riding Academy Manager explaining how to enroll for E-Course
  • Two and a half hours designated to take E-Course
  • Online course must be completed 30 days before your riding class.
  • You must print the Certificate of Completion and bring it to class with you.

 

You’ll need to bring the following:

  • A heavy, long-sleeve shirt or jacket
  • Jeans, chaps, or leather pants
  • Over-the-ankle, sturdy footwear
  • Full-fingered gloves (no mesh or gloves with holes in them)
  • A helmet (1/2, 3/4, or full faced) that’s DOT approved
  • Eyewear

For the riding portion, you will provide a street-ready motorcycle (preferably your own motorcycle).

3 WHEEL NEW RIDER COURSE

WHAT TO EXPECT

This is the best place to start once you’ve made the decision to ride a 3-wheel motorcycle, whether the two wheels are in the front or the back. The Three Wheel Basic RiderCourse is for three wheel motorcyclists. The 3WBRC is designed for riders  and uses the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s (MSF) curriculum. Six hours of classroom instruction prepares you for eight hours of practical riding exercises in a controlled, off-street environment. Course participants use their own motorcycles.  Upon completion of this course, you will receive a “License Waiver Card” indicating you have passed the skills test to receive you 3 Wheel Motorcycle Endorsement / License.  Also, you will receive a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Completion card to be turned into your insurance company for possible premium reductions.

PRE-REQUISITES:

  • You provide your own 3 Wheeled Motorcycle for this course
  • Possess either a valid driver’s license OR a motorcycle learner’s permit

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Your 3-Wheeled Motorcycle
  • Your riding gear
  • Pen/pencil for classroom sessions
  • Food/beverages for breaks and lunch

REQUIRED RIDING GEAR:

  • Long-sleeve shirt or jacket
  • Long pants (heavy denim or riding pants recommended)
  • Over-the-ankle boots (sturdy, not canvas)
  • Eye protection (Eye/sunglasses or Helmet with face shield)
  • Full-finger gloves
  • Full-face or ¾-face helmet
